| Hackworth in his father-in-law's will. | Hawksworth, John (I3500)
| Hannah, Thomas, James and William were spelt Pearce in the baptism register, while John, Catherine, Edward and Sarah were spelt Pearcey. The regular sequence of the children and lack of repeated names strongly suggests a single family. | Family F944
| Having children over 26 years is not impossible if the mother married fairly young, especially if there were other children during the 1780-91 gap who were perhaps baptised elsewhere or are otherwise not recorded. However the only burial is for a Catherine, wife of Richard Marton of Braywoodside, in Bray in 1826, aged 78. If correct, that puts her birth in about 1748 and makes her an impossibly old 58 when Moses was born. The burial at Bray of a Richard Martin of Braywoodside in 1836, aged 89, puts his birth in about 1747, which adds consistency to Catherine's age. Their son Moses was describes as the son of Richard Martin of Braywoodside when he was buried, which tends to confirm we have the right family as it was only a tiny hamlet. If Catherine was from Berkshire, the only plausible baptism I can find in either the IGI or the BFHS index (even as far back as 1748) is one in 1761 in Bray. This would make her 19 when she married and a much more plausible 45 when Moses was born. The mother of the Catherine baptised in 1761 was buried in 1788 when she was referred to as of Braywoodside, where the Martin family later lived. It seems to me this is almost certainly the right baptism, and most probably the age on Catherine's burial is wrong. | Percy, Catherine (I3525)
| Having Lovell born in 1740 and not marrying until 1778 makes him 38 when he marries, which is unusually old. However Lovell Bull is an exceptionally rare name, and it seems highly likely that everyone with the name descends from one of two 17th century Bull–Lovell marriages in the Ringwood area. There were no Bulls in the Romsey and Eling area in the early 18th century, and the only ones there in the middle of the century were John and Charity, and Lovell and Catherine. The latter had a son called Lovell born in 1740. He is the only recorded baptism anywhere in Hampshire at an appropriate time to be the man who married Jane Meacher in 1778. | Bull, Lovell (I2767)
| He described himself as of Freshwater in the will, and there are four possible burials at Freshwater during this period: 21 Dec 1641, 20 May 1643, Oct 1648 and Mar 1653. | Urry, David (I1524)
| He may be the man who left a will, 1798P/26 (catalogued as "Will of David Wyatt of Fawley, Hampshire, yeoman") in the Hampshire Archives. Also of potential interest is 1779A/121 ("Will of David Wyatt of Dibden, Hampshire, yeoman"), which could be an earlier generation. There are no obvious burials corresponding to either man. | Wyatt, David (I3269)
| He was born Harold Croutear, but was adopted by William and Elizabeth Foy and took their surname. In later life he seems to have adopted the double-barrelled surname, Croutear-Foy. | Croutear-Foy, Harold (I2172)
| He was the third son according to the Visitation of Wiltshire: the second son was probably born 1547/8. | Lovell, Richard (I3890)
| Heir to father in 1589. | Lovell, James (I3894)
| Henry Barfoot junior of Botley Gate | Barfoot, Henry (I4473)
| Henry's will is dated 7 July 1625 and proved 4 May 1626. He leaves £5 to Henry Howell, "his eldest sonne"; 1/- apiece to his daughters Dorothie Bownds, Avis Howell and Jane Lovell; and 20/- apiece to his son John Howell and daughter Francis Howell. The reside is left to his wife Jane, who he makes his executrix. | Howell, Henry (I4571)
| At least one living or private individual is linked to this note - Details withheld. | Private (I2177)
| Her mother Johane Rickman left "Katherine Urrye my youngest daughter" one year-old cow bullock and her gold ring. Katherine's four sons are also mentioned (though not by name) and left 20/- a piece. | Rickman, Katherine (I1522)
| Her parents are listed as Thomas & Fanny in the HGS baptism index, but there is no other evidence that there was a man with the unlikely name of Thomas Thomas. An Ann appears on the 1841 census with Charles & Fanny, aged 3. This matches the date of the baptism perfectly, and the mother's name. | Thomas, Ann (I3210)
| Her surname is written Dews in the marriage register. | Dew, Amelia (I3562)
| HGS index has it as Cookey | Gookey, Henry (I3484)
| His birth certificate says 22 Jul, as do some other official records. He maintained this was an error and that his mother said he was born on 23 Jul. | Banks, Arthur Thomas (I48)
| His birth was registered in Q4 1881; however in signing up to the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force he gave his date of birth as 6 Dec 1884. There's no reason to doubt that these refer to the same person. | Vane, Seth Cox (I512)
| His eldest son married in about 1502. This crude estimate is based on 25 years per generation. | Lovell, Thomas (I3899)
| His eldest son's eldest son married in about 1502. This crude estimate is based on 25 years per generation. | Lovell, Richard (I3900)
| His grave gives his date of birth as 10 June, the social security index says 11 June, and the Department of Veteran Affairs says 20 January. | Croutear, Ernest W (I2229)
| His mother is identified as Susan, not Sarah, in the transcript | Day, Samuel (I5548)
| His parents are given as James & Harriet, but there is no evidence there was such a couple, and he is living with James & Hannah on the 1841 census. | Thomas, George (I3189)
| His parents are identified as James & Mary in the baptism register, as was the case with his brother Harry who was baptised the same day. However he and Harry appear on the 1861 census as a son of John & Mary. | Bull, James (I2666)
| His parents are identified as James & Mary in the baptism register, as was the case with his brother James who was baptised the same day. However he and James appear on the 1861 census as a son of John & Mary. | Bull, Harry (I2667)
| His parents are not identified in the baptism register, but we know who his parents are from Lovell v Lovell and his parents' wills. The age matches his wife's age. | Lovell, William (I1544)
| His will suggests he died childless and unmarried. | Bull, John (I3590)
| His youngest daughter was born on 12 Jan 1799, and his widow remarried on 30 Mar 1800. This means François died sometime between Apr 1798 and Mar 1800. | Joslin, François (I1176)
| Hunt is a common surname, and Durley is a fair way from Fawley. However the fact that William & Elizabeth had a son called Edward Hutchings Hunt suggests her maiden name was Hutchins. Also there is no sign that the William & Elizabeth who married in Durley stayed in that area. | Family F316
| I assume this is 1731/2, though the HGS transcript does not make this clear. | Carpenter, Charles (I4880)
| Identification is circumstantial. The 1911 census says that Fred and Sally had a child who died, the year 1893 matches the (spurious) date given for their marriage. The name is also the same as the father which adds credibility. | Medley, Frederick Henry (I342)
| Identified as a witness at his brother's wedding: "Jean Antoinne Gosselin frère dudit epoux". | Gosselin, Jean Antoine (I2134)
| Identified as the son of Hannah Willis of Fawley. | Willis, James (I1770)
| Identified in the baptism entry for his nephew, Jean Baptiste Gosselin. "Le parain Marin Gosselin son oncle." | Gosselin, Marin (I2157)
| Identified on the marriages of his sister Catherine and brother Pierre. | Gosselin, Charles (I2154)
