Family Richard Martin, bp. 7 Dec 1746, Warfield, Berkshire, England , bur. 24 Jan 1836, Bray, Berkshire, England (Age ~ 89 years) Married 10 Sep 1780 Bray, Berkshire, England [5] Notes - The 11 year gap between the first two children and the 26 year span between first and last child would ordinarily suggest two families, but all but the first of the children's baptisms give the mother's maiden name as Percy (or a variant thereof: Pearce, Piercey, and in one case Pace), and the only Martin-Percy marriage was in 1780, a month before the first child's baptism.

Notes - Having children over 26 years is not impossible if the mother married fairly young, especially if there were other children during the 1780-91 gap who were perhaps baptised elsewhere or are otherwise not recorded. However the only burial is for a Catherine, wife of Richard Marton of Braywoodside, in Bray in 1826, aged 78. If correct, that puts her birth in about 1748 and makes her an impossibly old 58 when Moses was born. The burial at Bray of a Richard Martin of Braywoodside in 1836, aged 89, puts his birth in about 1747, which adds consistency to Catherine's age. Their son Moses was describes as the son of Richard Martin of Braywoodside when he was buried, which tends to confirm we have the right family as it was only a tiny hamlet.
If Catherine was from Berkshire, the only plausible baptism I can find in either the IGI or the BFHS index (even as far back as 1748) is one in 1761 in Bray. This would make her 19 when she married and a much more plausible 45 when Moses was born. The mother of the Catherine baptised in 1761 was buried in 1788 when she was referred to as of Braywoodside, where the Martin family later lived. It seems to me this is almost certainly the right baptism, and most probably the age on Catherine's burial is wrong. [1, 2, 4]
