Described as of Chieveley, Berks in father's will. Harding, Jane (I3085)

Described as of Clatford, Hants in father's will. He may be the John Harding who married Anne Glass at Upper Clatford on 12 Jul 1762, and had two children, Jonathan (bp 7 Jan 1763) and Anne (bp 19 Feb 1765). Harding, John (I3084)

Died by 1777, as he was described as "feu Jean François Gosselin" in Jacques' marriage.  Gosselin, Jean François (I1994)

Died during the Battle of the Marne. Parsons, George (I424)

At least one living or private individual is linked to this note - Details withheld. Private (I618)

Died in a motorcycle accident. Spells, Eric Edward (I481)

At least one living or private individual is linked to this note - Details withheld. Private (I731)

Dina's burial says "Dina Josselin est morte ... et a été enterrée". These are both feminine participle agreements.  Gosselin, Dina (I1479)

Edward's death registration is the only place where the middle name Martin is given. Banks, Edward Martin (I634)

Edward's will names his children Mary Taylor, Ursula Binstead, James Smith, Peter Smith, Levi Smith and Ann Horse. He also mentions his son John's two children, John and Jane Smith. Edward's father John's will names Edwards children Mary, Ursula, James, Peter and Ann (but not Levi). Neither mention of a son, Edward, so probably he died young.  Smith, Edward (I3683)

Either 7 Jul 1787 or 7 Apr 1802. The other date is John and Mary's son's burial. Scorey, John (I3848)

Either 7 Jul 1787 or 7 Apr 1802. The other date is Richard and Mary's son's burial. Scorey, John (I4893)

Either William Harry (birth registered Q3 1899) or Herbert William (birth registered Q4 1899). Spears, William (I787)

Eliza-Jane was born before her parents married, but there is little doubt she was their daughter. The baptism register says "Eliza-Jane daughter of [John or George - written in pencil] & Eliza Hardyway his wife", with the father's profession given as brickmaker. Joslin, Eliza Jane (I2067)

Elizabeth may be the child of Jane Wyatt who was baptised in Dibden in 1736/7. The register is badly damaged and both the child's name and the father's are illegible. Wyatt, Elizabeth (I3610)

Elizabeth's mother's will mentions eight living children in 1605, and leaves each 20/-, but only names Robert. However there were clearly two John Aldridges in Ringwood at this time, so it's difficult to work out which is part of this family. Family F440

Ellen's surname is known from the baptism of her four children. In two cases it is spelt Madden, in one Madigan, and in one Maddigan.  Madigan, Ellen (I1033)

Emigrated to Canada in 1920 to settle near his brother William. Banks, Harold (I882)

Emigrated to Toronto with her sister Rosa. Either Rosa or Helena must have been the mother of Ruth J CroutearCroutear, Helena Mabel (I2461)

Emigrated to Toronto with her sister Helena. Either Rosa or Helena must have been the mother of Ruth J CroutearCroutear, Rosa Margaretta (I2459)

At least one living or private individual is linked to this note - Details withheld. Family F502

Ernest could be a child of an earlier marriage, though there is no evidence of there having been one. Family F820

Estate valued at £302 14/8. Probably unmarried and childless as his executor was his brother. Scorey, Bernard Victor (I4459)

Estimate based on her being in her early 20s at marriage. Cabel, Clemence (I976)

Estimated as 1710 based on him being in his 20s when he married. Possibly actually 1709. Banks, William (I970)

Estimated as 1715 based on him being in his 20s when he married. Possibly actually 1712. Banks, William (I986)

Everyone in the world with the surname Croutear seems to be descended from Charles Samuel and Frances Croutear, and the surname does not appear in any parish register in Hampshire (as transcribed by the HGS) before the 1820s. Charles's referee for his pension application to the Hospital of St Cross included the baptism record of “Charles Croucher or Croutear as he now spells his name. I can vouch for this being his entry as I [personally] know that his parents names [were] John and Elizabeth.”

If Charles adopted the name Croutear, it would certainly explain why all Croutears today descend from him. Croucher is a common name in Boldre, so this is plausible enough. However it is worth noting that Charles's oldest three siblings were spelt Crouter in their baptism records, as was Charles's father. Crouter often seems to be a spelling variant of Crowder which is not uncommon in Hampshire, though is not found in the New Forest.
Croutear, Charles Samuel (I2161)

Evidently either the year of the baptism or the year of the burial is wrong. Wrann, George (I3340)

Evidently there's some discrepancy if he died aged 4 days, was baptised on 7 Mar and buried on 25 Mar, but it's clearly the same child. Whitfield, Charles (I1295)

Exact date not legible, but parents named as David and Jane Wyatt.  Wyatt, Sarah (I3614)

Executor to his brother Thomas, and left the residue of his estate. Lovell, William (I3906)

At least one living or private individual is linked to this note - Details withheld. Family F625

Family tradition states that that George was the illegitimate son of a son of the Dean of Winchester, presumably Thomas Rennell (1754–1840, dean from 1805). It is speculated that the in question is Charles John RennellFamily F1436

Fanny's parents are given as James & Elizabeth, but there is no record of such a couple and the 1851 census shows her as Daniel & Elizabeth's daughter. Barfoot, Fanny Martha (I5613)

Fanny, daughter of William and Sarah. Banks, Fanny (I975)

Father described as "Richard junior"; no mother given. Willis, Mary (I1764)

Father given as "David junior". Urry, Thomas (I1528)

Father given as a sawyer. Earwaker, John (I1738)

Father unknown. Family F328

Findmypast has two entries – one on 12 Mar 1808, the other on 12 Mar 1809. I transcribed the register as 1808, but 1809 better fits the parents' marriage on 29 Dec 1809. Hayden, John (I5024)

FindMyPast transcribes this as 11 Feb Hayden, Lucy (I5026)

First named son in Jeremiah's will in which he is left Jeremiah's house at Copythorne and his shop at Rhimehall. Martell, Philip Benjamin (I3496)

FreeBMD indexes two Mary Anns on vol. 2c, p. 524 of the Cookham marriage register. One is Mary Ann Slaughter, the other Mary Ann Watts. A Mary Ann Watts, b 1832 in Sonning, appears on the 1851 census for Cookham, dau of William & Jane; a Mary Ann Slaughter appears on the 1841 census for Dedworth in Windsor, b 1835. The census shows James' wife as b 1833 or 1832, and the marriage was in Cookham district, so Mary Ann Watts is the better fit. But this is not conclusive. Family F1039

from age 60 on 1841 census Bass, John (I4935)

From Bishop's Transcripts, as the registers for 1796–1812 are missing. Family F950

George and Thomas, twins who were baptised in Sept 1758 and buried on 22 Oct, are assumed to be children of this marriage. William and Mary were the other Rann couple having children in Fawley at this time, but they had a child baptised on 30 Mar 1759, which is too close to George and Thomas for them to share parents. Family F900

George may be the same man as the George Thomas who married Elizabeth Early in 1812, however there's no suitable burial for Hannah between 1810 and 1812. Thomas, George (I3167)

George was born in Damerham in about 1789, however he is not listed in the Damerham parish register which is clearly incomplete as it contains no baptisms at all between 1788 and 1792. George first appears in Fawley sometime in the opening decade of the 19th century, at about the same time as a William Whitfield who was a witness to George's wedding. William was born in about 1779, and although there is no concrete evidence placing his birth in Damerham, it matches a baptism there for a son of John and Mary. They are the only Whitfield couple having children at this time in the wider New Forest area (whether in Wiltshire, Hampshire or Dorset), so it seems probable that George is their son too.  Whitfield, George (I1256)
