  John was single and living in Liverpool on the 1939 register. In 1941 and 1953 two Croutear children were born (Marie who died the same quarter, and William N) whose mother's maiden name was Kelly. John Owen and his brother Charles James were the only Croutear men in Liverpool at the time. Charles was married to Lilian Bailey, so either Lilian had been married before and her maiden name was Kelly, or John was married to a woman surnamed Kelly. [1, 2]
