Notes - Mary may be the widow of William Hayden. A William and Mary Hayden had a daughter, Ann, baptised on 11 May 1777 at High Easter. They had married at High Easter on 14 Nov 1763, both of that parish. Her maiden name was Smith. A William was then buried 9 Sep 1783.
We don't know exactly when James was born. The baptism was 1 May 1785, and his age of 76 on the 1861 census is consistent with that, but he could have been nearly a year older. If so, he could be a posthumous son of William and Mary, which would explain why "base born" is struck out in the register.
