• Notes

  This Henry is about the same age as John and Jane's son Henry. On the 1871 census, one of the Henrys was living with his grandfather Henry, and working as an assistant market gardener. Both Henrys were his grandson, but we know this must be Eli's son because John's son was living with John, and working as a bricklayer's labourer. In later life, John's son continued working as a gardener while Henry's son continued working as a bricklayer. This helps disambiguate them.
