• Notes

  Very likely this is the same John Whitfield who was baptised in 1817, son of William and Charlotte. However there is a second, rather younger John, baptised in 1828, son of George and Elizabeth, and buried in 1853. Although this would make him rather younger than Matilda, Matilda's husband is known to have died between 1852 and 1861, and there seems no other plausible burial.
